Taking PROMACTA

PROMACTA

PROMACTA is a once-daily oral treatment that you can take at home, work, or on the go

PROMACTA® (eltrombopag) is available as an oral tablet (12.5 mg, 25 mg, 50 mg, and 75 mg) and an oral suspension (12.5 mg, 25 mg) so your doctor can adjust your dose according to your needs.

PROMACTA tablets are available in 4 strengths

Can’t swallow a pill? 12.5 mg and 25 mg are also available in an oral suspension

If you or the person you care for has been prescribed PROMACTA, you should be aware of certain foods and supplements that may affect the way PROMACTA works.

When taking PROMACTA, here are 2 important things to remember:

PROMACTA can be taken without a meal or it can be taken with a meal low in calcium (≤50 mg)
PROMACTA should be taken 2 hours before or 4 hours after taking medications like antacids, mineral supplements, or foods that are high in calcium

Be sure to check the labels of your food or supplements containing polyvalent cations, such as iron, calcium, aluminum, magnesium, selenium, and zinc.

Examples of calcium-rich foods containing greater than 50 mg of calcium include:

  • Dairy products (yogurt, cheese, milk, ice cream)
  • Calcium-fortified foods (orange juice, dry cereal, bread)
  • Certain fruits and vegetables

Dosing according to your schedule

For example, if you prefer taking medication right before you go to bed at 9:00 PM, follow these recommendations:

Calcium-rich foods, medications, or supplements should not be consumed after 5:00 PM

Take PROMACTA right before you go to bed
